Exploring the Lower City of Baldur's Gate 3 leads players to the iconic Counting House, a grand financial institution housing vast treasures. Navigating past the strict guards and finding the entrance to the High Security Vault requires careful planning and strategic execution. Knowing the right path and puzzle solutions ensures you can access these heavily guarded vaults without causing unnecessary chaos.
Finding the Counting House Entrance in Baldur's Gate
The Counting House is situated along the southern coast of the Lower City area. Players can reach the building's main doors around the coordinates -98, -148. To gain access past the front lobby, you must speak with Head Clerk Meadhoney. Passing a dialogue check using Persuasion, Intimidation, or Deception grants you a vault pass to move deeper into the facility.
Solving the Main Vault Door Puzzle
Once you descend into the lower levels, you will encounter a massive vault door protected by a floor tile puzzle. The code to unlock this massive door is 1-3-5-6, which can be found in the Head Banker's office upstairs. Unlocking the door requires sending a single character across the interactive floor tiles to press those specific numbers in order. Alternatively, players can short-circuit the door mechanism by throwing water onto the floor tiles and casting a lightning spell or shooting a lightning arrow.
Accessing the High Security Vaults
Past the primary vault room lies the deeply protected High Security Vault chamber where nine individual vaults reside. Before looting these chambers, you will need to deal with a battle involving cultists of Bhaal. After resolving the combat encounter, each High Security Vault can be opened using specific filigree keys scattered across Act 3 or by lockpicking them directly with a high Sleight of Hand skill. Utilizing a skilled rogue like Astarion makes opening these difficult locks significantly easier.
Bypassing Traps and Security Measures
The hallway leading to the vaults features unique security systems, including teleportation glyphs that reset your position. You can disable these floor traps by targeting small buttons located on the side walls using a bow or spell. Spells like Misty Step or Dimension Door also allow party members to bypass physical barriers and movement traps safely. Once the security is bypassed, you are free to gather the valuable loot stored within each vault.
